Wössner are regarded by Europe's leading motor sport engine builders as being the piston of choice when building an engine not only to perform, but to withstand the stresses and duress's of competition life. Wössner pistons feature a unique PTFE coating on the skirts and a grade of 4032 Alloy (T6) which allows the engine builder to run a closer piston to bore tolerance then he might do on another make of piston. This helps remove the slapping noise during cold start, common place among engines running forged pistons due to larger then OE bore clearances.
The crowns of the pistons are also polished to better resist detonation on a high performance engine. Polishing allows a more even spread of heat inside the chamber which will help prevent "hot spots" on piston crowns. Price includes all piston rings and gudgeon pins. The pistons have been based around OEM samples supplied by Ford Performance and tweaked to make them more suitable for aftermarket tuning.
The main change is the slight drop in compression ratio over OEM pistons. The 2.3 engine uses Ford's Eco-Boost direct injection system which makes changes to the compression ratio difficult. Too high will result in detonation and the subsequent "dialling back" of the ignition advance dulling performance, and too low will end up with poor fuel economy and emissions unable to pass yearly checks.
We have listened to the feedback from a number of sources regarding our existing 2.0, 1.6 and 1.0 Ecoboost pistons and decided to lower the C/R on these pistons from the OEM 9.3:1 to 9.0:1. A minor drop but should provide a useable C/R for tuning without the adverse effects mentioned above. As far as fitment is concerned, both the pistons and the connecting rods are interchangeable with OEM parts so customers who want to retain OE rods but require pistons can do so. Of course we are able to offer the traditional "Piston and rod" package, while the con rods come supplied with the traditional ARP 2000 series fastener or the optional 625 custom age fastener. A t the moment, only 87.5mm bore suitable pistons are available with 88mm becoming available shortly. As always we recommend measuring bore sizes for discrepancies prior to fitment.
